Sad But True...

Wednesday, November 28, 2007

Many of you know I have a little obsession with Tiffany & Co. I would call it a passion more then an obsession, but whatever. I love everything about Tiffany's and have started quite the collection of Tiffany treasures. During the summer after my senior year of high school I made a goal to visit every Tiffany's in the US and buy something at each one. Luckily my parents support me in this crusade and have funded many of trips.

Now I am pleased to announce that I visited my 14th Tiffany's! My family and I ventured down to Wall Street to visit the new Tiffany's. I was so excited! I bought a cute snowman Christmas ornament. I love it! One of the ladies there tried to get me to buy a $450 cashmere scarf. The sad truth is that I really wanted to get it. It was so cute. I tried to talk my parents into it, but they said no. I wonder why? If I hadn’t just paid off my credit card and loved the feeling of being debt free, I probably would have bought that scarf. We decided to go to Canal Street and get three for $10. That will have to do until I can get the Tiffany one. Just kidding!

I have 57 Tiffany's left! Seriously! Tiffany's needs to stop opening stores. When I started there were only 57 Tiffany's in the entire country. It makes my goal a little more challenging, but more exciting. You'll have to wait in great anticipation for the next post that will reveal my next Tiffany experience. Maybe I will splurge and get the scarf. I doubt it!

I just got elfed!

Operation Parental Units Visit was a Success!

Sunday, November 25, 2007

Well, the fam has come and gone. I think they had a good time playing in the Big City. I was most worried about my dad, but I think he enjoyed himself. Going to Yankee Stadium really made the trip for him. He also loved Central Park. He went running almost every day. My mom, sister, and I woke up on Friday to find that my dad was missing. We called and found out that he left early in the morning to go walk around Central Park and take pictures. That man really loves that park. He bought a Yankee coat and hat and wore them for most of the trip. He was so cute – The little tourist.

Mom and Kari had a good time too. It was tough for Kari because she can’t eat wheat so we had to be a little careful of where we ate. I felt bad because sometimes she didn’t get enough to eat and was hungry. She was a good baby-sitter for me while I was at work. She kept the two parental units in line.

One of my favorite parts of the whole week was the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Mom and I got up early in the morning to get seats so we could see the parade. It was worth it! We had such a good time and great seats. Luckily the parade thing turned out well because we got our dinner two hours late. I felt bad, but it all seemed to work out in the end. We went to a movie and then Kari, mom, and I made Christmas cards. My dad didn’t know why I was making cards. He said I didn’t have anyone to send them to.
:0(

The day after Thanksgiving was long but fun. We walked across 34th Street and then up 5th Ave. We thought it would be supper busy, but it wasn’t bad. Macy’s was the worst part, which we figured would be. It was worth going in, because my mom got a beautiful nativity scene. She was so happy.

We didn’t get to see Grease or Wicked because of the strike. I’m so mad! We did get to see Mary Poppins, which was good. We tried the Young Frankenstein lottery twice but didn’t win any tickets. We ended up seeing two movies to help pass the time. Poor parents! They came across the country to spend $11.75 on a movie they could have watched at home. They didn’t complain.

We had a good time and I hope they come back to play again. It’s always fun to have the family around; especially when they pay. I love my parents. I can’t wait for Christmas. My dad made the comment that it has been a whole year since I’ve been home. It has been too long.

Dear Santa,

Sunday, November 18, 2007

I hope you had a great year and didn’t give the elves too hard a time. Thanks for the great gifts last year. You always know just what to get me. You’re the best!
I’m sure you already know, but I have been a very good girl this year. I’ve played nice with my roommates, been kind to my sister, called my mom as often as I could, and I have been to church almost every Sunday since coming out to New York. I know I dropped the ball on my dad’s birthday. I promise to not forget next year. You know how it goes. The last semester of school was tough and it slipped my mind. Other then I that, I think I have done all right.
I have thought long and hard about what I want for Christmas and I think I have come up with a great list for you to start with. (These are not in order of importance).

  • A puppy – a basset hound would be preferred but not necessary
  • A new apartment with no cockroaches – Please!!!!!!
  • A trip to London
  • Season tickets to the New York City Opera or the Knicks
  • World peace – I know I asked for that last year but I have to keep trying
  • A hot Italian man that loves to cook – heck any many that loves to cook – who am I kidding any man would be great
  • A chance to be a guest star on the TV show Lost – that would be way cool
  • A knight in shining armor – armor is optional – A prince will do too
  • The world’s best cheesecake
  • Tickets to Legally Blond on Broadway
  • Sexy Shoes – You know what I like!
  • Picture frames – I need more things to hang on my walls and spice up my room
  • “New York Minute” – I haven’t seen it but I love Mary-Kate and Ashley
  • Cute gloves, scarves, or hats
  • Jewelry – something fun
  • Something to put my makeup in
  • Nice socks – lame I know, but would like some really cute ones

I think that’s about it. Does that help? You know I will like anything you give me. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas season and don’t get too stressed out. Take a break every once and awhile, and go easy on the elves. Thanks for everything!

Merry Christmas,
erika

Elf!

I don’t know why but this movie is 10 times funnier now that I live in New York. I can’t wait for my mom to bring it so I can watch it in preparation for the Christmas season. I love it! I love it! I love it! I love it!

Mom and Dad are coming to town!

Saturday, November 17, 2007

Mom, Dad, and Kari will be coming to play with me in the Big City. They will be arriving early Monday morning. I’m excited to see them, but not to have to wake up early. I have to work for three of the days that they are here, but I think Kari can baby-sit the parents while I’m away. We have tickets to Wicked and Grease; unfortunately they are both on strike. I hope they open by Tuesday. My parents have never been to New York before, so this should be very interesting. These are the kinds of vacations they take. I'm a littler nervous to tell you the truth. I just hope they have a good time and are entertained. I’ll keep you posted.

Ok! So this Gabe person sent out another email containing more links. While I wasn't overly impressed this time around there were a few that were fun.http://producten.hema.nl/ - I thought this was really creative and fun. Make sure you watch the whole thing. It takes a minute once you click on the link. Just be patient.http://www.angry-gram.com/ - I tried this one out on Anna. I don't have headphones on my computer at work, so I didn't get to hear the end result. She seemed to like it. Here are the TV spots http://www.burgerking.co.uk/tvads/index.aspx
http://itsredagain.com/ - I don't know how I feel about this.http://www.attwheredoyoulive.com/ - I had some fun with this one. I don't think I would ever buy a shirt, but it did keep me entertained for about a minute.I didn't really care for the others. All I know is that I look forward to the emails I get from my company. Today I got to vote in the first ever annual Sexiest Man in Advertising contest. Good Times!

Battle of the Umbrellas

Singing In The Rain - The best video clips are right here

I’m from Washington. I am use to the rain. I didn’t watch “Singing in the Rain” in Washington, I lived it. While I do complain about it from time to time, I enjoy a stroll in the park in the rain now and then. Unfortunately, New York City is not as fond of the rain as I am. It seems like every time we have a heavy rain storm everything stops. The subways stop working and cabs are all taken, and everyone runs for cover.

On my way to work the other day I got off the subway and made the tree block walk to my office. It was gently raining and I decided that an umbrella wasn’t really necessary. As I made my way down the sidewalk I was completely over taken with frantic people and their weapons of destruction, their umbrellas. The sidewalks aren’t very big, and when there’s construction going on they are even smaller. People didn’t really seem to care and just brushed right past, not minding if they take an eye out with their umbrella. There’s just not enough room for all these people and their scary umbrellas.

It’s dangerous out there. I made a dash for the street thinking I would be safer against a car then the umbrellas. I watched as people rammed into each other and just exchanged nasty looks and then carried on their way. I enjoyed watching this, when I was not apart of it. I confess that the idea of walking in the rain now stresses me out. The only bright part of my journey was a woman with a clear umbrella that had pictures of cats on it. I must come up with a battle plan. I can’t live all winter like this.

Sick Again! Quality New York Moment?

Tuesday, November 13, 2007

Last Saturday I went shopping with my roommate. Good times, right? While trying on coats at Old Navy I suddenly started to not feel well. I told my roommate that I probably needed something to eat and would be back in a few minutes. Unfortunately food was not what I needed. Feeling like I was going to barf, I made my way to McDonalds to use their bathroom. There was a line of like 15 people and I couldn’t wait. After throwing up in the stairwell at McDonalds, a garbage can in the street, and a garbage can at the subway-stop, I made it home. I’ve never been more embarrassed in my life. And this was just the beginning. I spent my whole Saturday on the coach with Gatorade and a bowl nearby. After relaxing the rest of the weekend I thought all was well. This morning I went to work feeling fine. I was at my computer working when it hit me again. This time it was worse. Luckily my two sweet bosses took good care of me. I ended up going home. What’s wrong with me? Most people think that it’s food poisoning, but the only thing I had to eat on both days was Cheerios. I can not tell you how devastated I would be if I couldn’t have Cheerios anymore. I promised my boss I wouldn’t eat them for awhile. A co-worker thought it might be the milk. I don’t know, but I don’t like it. I hate being sick.

No…I’m Not Endorsing Coffee

Friday, November 9, 2007

Do you want to know what my weekday mornings are like? Well this is the best way I can show you. With the exception that I’m not a man, I don’t shave, and I don’t drink coffee, but you get the idea.

I love this commercial! Ok, I promise I won't post anymore videos for at least a week.

Did You Know This?

Thursday, November 8, 2007

One thing that most people are surprised to hear is that my favorite movie of all time is Rocky. The first one is preferred but there is a special place in my heart for the second, third, and forth. As for the fifth, I don't want to even comment. I did see Rocky Balboa and thought it quite good, but not as good as the first one. Why, you might ask, would a girl that has a DVD collection of the greatest chick flicks of all time claim that Rocky is number one in her life. There are so many reasons why but here are five.
  1. It has the sweetest little romance story. Quiet, shy, petshop girl gets swept off her feet by a guy who would do anything for her. Rocky treats Adrian like she's the most beautiful women in the whole world. What women wouldn't want that?
  2. This is the best classic underdog story. Rocky a poor, southpaw fighter who gets a chance to be the world’s heavy weight champion.
  3. It's funny. ''Take her to the Zoo!" Enough said.
  4. Amazing music. I turn on "Gonna Fly Now" and can run forever. It's the kind of music that just motivates you.
  5. SPOILER! One of my most favorite reasons why I love this movie is that Rocky doesn’t beat Apollo. That's what makes this movie so great! Rocky realizes before the fight that there is no way he is going to beat Apollo, but it doesn’t matter. All he wants to do is go the distance. No one had ever gone the distance with Apollo and that's all Rocky wants to do. And in the end he does, and he also gets the girl. What a man!
Can anyone tell me what Rocky movie this clip is from? Yes that's Rocky and yes that’s Apollo training him. What parallel universe is this? I don't know, but I love it!

Real quick! I know this is a long post. Here are some reasons why I love this clip.
  1. The cloths! Only one word can describe. SEXY!
  2. The running in the sand footage that is strategically places through-out the clip
  3. The song. You know I love it.
  4. Paulie gets pulled into the pool. I hate him!
  5. The fact that it ends with Rocky and Apollo frolicking and splashing in the water. You know you are watching a quality movie when it ends with two grown men playing in the ocean.
MAN I LOVE THIS MOVIE!

Site of the DAY!

Everyday at work I get emails from some guy named Gabe with the subject “Site of the day:………’. At first I just ignored these emails and put them in the trash. I thought nothing of it until yesterday when I got one that said “Site of the Day: It's FREE!” Being a person that jumps at the chance for anything that’s free I decided to read the email. The only thing there was a link.

http://i-needtogo.com/
Not being overly busy that day and this was an official office email, I decided to take a look. I’m ashamed to admit it, but I quite enjoyed my little break from work. Is anyone else disgusted by the fact that there was no wiping or washing of the hands? That’s sick. Man I love advertising! Only in Europe do you see this kind of stuff. I need to move.

I decided to go back and find all the Site of the days that I have deleted to check them out. My favorite is the hungry suitcase. These are just a few. Just a little fun sites to keep you entertain for a second or two.

i heart nike

Tuesday, November 6, 2007

So my new client is Nike. After spending a large portion of my day looking at their many websites, I have discovered so many things that I want to buy. This is not a good thing! They have so many cute closes and way cute shoes. I have most definitely turned loyal to Nike. I figured it would happen when they put me on the account, but I didn't know I would fall in love. No now I have the inner struggle to decide if I should spend my money on cute sports apparel or on other things like rent and food. Tough times for me!

Wilma, Betty, or Pebbles?

I know that this is late, considering that Halloween was last Wednesday, but I thought it was fair to show the pics of the three roommates together. I thought our costumers were good and that it would be a no-brainer who we were suppose to be. Unfortunately we were asked several times throughout the evening who we were. Leah, (Wilma) was asked if she was Pebbles and I (Pebbles) was asked if I was Betty or Wilma. Seriously people! This shouldn’t have been a problem! Didn’t we all grow up on Flintstones? Wasn’t it one of the cartoons of choice? They’re classic! Isn’t it easy to tell that Betty wears blue, Wilma wears white, and Pebbles the one with the bone in her hair. Maybe our costumes weren’t as good as we thought. What do you think? Ok Leah and Korts costumes were better then mine.

Even though people were having a hard time guessing who we were, this didn’t deter us from having a good time. Yes, I will admit that I did leave earlier then Kort and Leah, but I did stay longer then I was planning. It was a great party, and our hostesses did an amazing job. First New York Halloween down and I hope several more to come. I’m already thinking of my costume for next year. What will I be? We shall see.
