CSA 2014: What to do with quail eggs?

Tuesday, September 2, 2014

This CSA has been interesting. We've gotten our usual goods, but we have gotten some slightly random items as well.  Quail eggs is our current item. Jeff and I have no idea what to do with them! Any suggestions?

We're doing another CSA! - Bag #1!

Friday, June 13, 2014

Jeff and I decided to do another CSA this year. We did one a couple of years ago (you may remember), but decided not to do it again since we couldn't really eat everything we got and it was going bad. This year we are trying a different one and we're both really excited about it!

Unlike last time, where we went and picked out our share from a local store (and the farm was several hours away), we're going with Silver Forge Farm which is in Freehold, NJ...a lot closer! Jeff is particularly excited about this CSA because we are going to be getting eggs!

The next few months are going to be crazy busy for us, but I will try to share our CSA journey with you!

CSA: Box #?

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

I'm so behind! I don't think I got pictures every week, but here's what I did get. We started getting watermelon last week and we've been loving it!

CSA: Box 7...A Box With No Lettuce!

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

I think this may be our first CSA box that doesn't have lettuce in it. We did however get some more chard. :) Always chard...

I'm really excited about the items in todays box. I love corn and onions!

CSA: Box 5...Lots and Lots of Lettuce

Thursday, June 28, 2012

We have so much lettuce! I'm going to have to eat a large salad every day until we leave on Tuesday. That's not necessarily a bad thing :)

We also got some more swiss chard, zucchini, beets, collards, and

CSA: Box 4...Hey Hey Annie!

Thursday, June 21, 2012

Hey Annie! I think we got some collard greens! I believe you asked me to "holla at your girl."

We got lots more chard, lettuce, beets, and zucchini! Jeff has been making some amazing stir-fry over the past few weeks! I've been so spoiled!

New items in our box this week?

Oregano

Blueberries

(linking with http://TidyMom.net)

We're not sure what type of lettuce this is...

Collard Greens

CSA: Box 3...More veggies from Honey Brook Organic Farm

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Another Wednesday, another CSA Box! I just love getting these boxes. It's so hard to wait until I get home to open it and see what we got this week!

We got more swiss red chard, lettuce, broccoli, beets, and....

 Scallions

 Zucchini

 Cabbage

I'm really excited about the Zucchini!

We actually made a substantial dent in the vegetables we got in our last box. We had stir fry (Jeff makes really good stir fry), lots of salads, soup, and pesto! It was my first attempt at pesto and it turned out ok, but I think I need to work. Those garlic scapes are just really intense! Good, but intense! We've now used the pesto for the stir fry, burgers, and on some tacos.

CSA: Box 2...What to do with all these vegetables?!

Wednesday, June 6, 2012

We picked up our second CSA box today and it was packed full! I couldn't believe how heavy it was when I picked it up. We didn't even use all the veggies from our last box. I'm not sure how we are going to eat all of these before everything goes bad.

With last weeks box we had salad for every dinner, which was wonderful. Jeff made a nice leek and potato soup. It was delicious. I think we decided to make pesto with the garlic scapes and swiss red chard, but just haven't gotten around to it. I think it will be a Friday project. I will keep you posted.

What did we get this week?

Well, we got a lot more garlic scapes, swiss red chard, and leeks. And the new stuff...

Yet Another Different Kind of Lettuce

Broccoli

Bok Choy

Beets

 Radishes

We really need to pick up on our vegetable intake! Our fridge is packed!

We're planning on going to the farm and picking some strawberries, but we'll see if we actually get around to doing it. We have a busy weekend ahead of us.

CSA: Box 1...Jeffrey loves his vegetables...

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

Jeffrey loves his vegetables so much that he signed us up for a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture)

What does that mean? Well it means that every Wednesday we get to pick up a box of fresh vegetables sent from Honey Brook Organic Farm (We pick the box up at a local organic food store). The box will be slightly different from week to week since we get whatever is being harvested.

So, basically we are going to have a little "Chopped" (TV Show) competition in our house this summer since we can potentially get vegetables we don't normally cook with. I think Jeff is excited for the challenge.

This is what we got in our first box. We aren't sure on the names of a few of these so please feel free to leave a comment and correct me.

 Red Lettuce?

Garlic Scapes

 Hakurei Turnips

 Leeks

Spinach

 Chard

Lettuce?
(not sure what kind)

I think we are going to be having a lot of salad this first week which Jeff is thrilled about. I'm not sure what we are going to do with the garlic scapes, but we googled what they are used for and I think we have several options.

I'll let you know what we end up making with this first round of vegetables, but if you happen to have a recipe or recommendation that calls for any of these things let me know. We are open for suggestions.
