This Can't Be Good!

Saturday, October 25, 2008

So they opened a Shake Shack in my neighborhood. While walking home from To Be or Not To Be last night I noticed that it was open and not very many blocks from my house. This is not a good thing! I decided to grab a burger and fries for lunch today, and was delighted that it tasted just as good as the one downtown. I'm going to have to be supper strong and not go everyday! I still need to try one of their shakes. Maybe I will have to make a goal for myself that I go only on the weekends. We shall see. (sorry for the blurry picture).

Broadway: A Good Question

Friday, October 24, 2008

I went to see To Be Or Not To Be tonight. I had heard that it was funny and would be closing soon, so I decided to go see it. It was mildly entertaining, but I can see why it's closing early. It's nowhere near as funny as Boeing-Boeing or the 39 Steps, but I did have a few good laughs. The people next to me said it was like the the non-musical version of the Producers, but not quite as stupid. I have never seen the Producers, so I don't know if this is very accurate.

"So this is New Jersey?"

Even though this is a week overdue, I thought I would give a shout out to Miss Kelly B. anyways. Ashley and I went to see Kelly in the Secret Garden: a Concert Production in New Jersey last Friday. It was fun seeing Kelly on the stage!

I have never seen (or heard of) the musical version of the Secret Garden (I know, shame on me), and I will have to confess I have fallen in love with the music. I think I will have to go out and by the soundtrack. Good job Kelly!

My 1 Year Anniversary.

Thursday, October 23, 2008

Today is my one year anniversary at my job! It's been a great year and I hope the next one will be just as wonderful.
I also passed my one year anniversary of my blog (Sept 30th.) I can't believe I missed it. I will have to celebrate next year.

Broadway: A Man for All Seasons

Saturday, October 18, 2008

-->I had the opportunity to go see A Man for All Seasons last night. I didn’t know much about the play (actually I didn’t know anything about the play), so I was really excited to see it. (Sarah taught me that shows are a lot better when you know nothing about them when you go see them. I’ve tried to live by this rule ever since.)

I opened the playbill to read the bios, and was delighted to discover that the main character in the play was Sir. Thomas More. I love this time period in history,
so I knew I was going to enjoy the show. It did have some slow parts, but on the whole I thought it was a great play. Frank Langella, who played Sir. Thomas More, did a phenomenal job. All the acting was good (and there were a lot of Broadway debuts).
I’m always really impressed with the sets of the playa on Broadway. While the set wasn’t overly fancy, they did a great job of changing it to make you feel like you were in a new place each scene. I would also like to add that I cried like a baby. I’m not sure why I had such a display of emotion, but I noticed several people around me crying as well. There are only a handful of shows that have driven me to tears, and A Man for All Seasons had me bawling like a baby. If you're looking for laughs, this is not the show to see. There are a few funny parts, but they are kind of far between.

All in all, I liked it.

Broadway: 13 - Oh, that's cute!

Friday, October 10, 2008

I'm back in business. It has been 3 months since I have seen a show, and I have been going threw withdraws. I got to see two shows with Annie last week, and now I have the Broadway fever. All I think about all day is going to see a show. Luckily there are several shows opening up over the past few months.

I had the opportunity to see 13 the Musical the other night. I hadn't heard much about it except that the cast was comprised of 13 teens. I went in with an open mind and not expecting much. The results? It's so cute! Yes, it's not the most amazing production on Broadway, but it's really fun. The kids did a great job, and truly blew me away with their talent. They had amazing voices and were very entertaining. I have to buy the soundtrack. It's a little cheesy, but it does have some songs that rock.

Total Tourist: Day 2!

Saturday, October 4, 2008

Today = A long walk down 5th and up Madison. But we first made a quick stop at my favorite brunch place, Alice's Tea Cup. I was sooooo excited that they had coco back at Alice's. I love their coco so much, and I almost screamed when the lady said it was back in season until spring. I was a very happy girl.

Total Tourist: Day One!

I'm going to let the pics do most of the talking.

On the subway heading downtown. You can't visit New York without the classic subway pic.

On the ferry heading to the Statue of Liberty

Well, that looks like the Statue of Liberty!

The show of choice for Friday night was Spamalot. I really do enjoy this show.

This is now officially the show I have seen the most on Broadway. There are a lot of seconds, but I have now seen this show three times. The only way I could think of celebrating was waiting for Sir Clay and getting my pic with him. I heart you Clay! (Thanks Annie for taking the pic!)

Tourist for the weekend!

Thursday, October 2, 2008

-->Annie, a good friend from high school, is in town for the weekend visiting. We have tickets for shows on Friday and Saturday. I'm really excited to be seeing some shows again. I haven't seen a show in three months. It's about time! We have three days of fun touristy things to do. I will keep you posted.
I had to work today, so I met up with Annie tonight for dinner. We went to Sarafina’s. It's one of my favorite places. (It was weird going there without Sarah. I think I have never been there without her before). I had lobster ravioli. I have decided that it is my favorite dish. I could eat it every day for the rest of my life. We then walked over to Rockefeller Center for a few pics. Let the touristness begin!
